Parents and Grown-ups
You are your child's first (and best) teacher!
Let's work together.
According to research by Reading Rockets (2007), and many other credible sources, parents have an enormous influence on reading development amongst students. When parents model fluent reading, support a love of reading, and engage in books with children, students become motivated to develop their own reading skills. Although there is no wrong way to read with a child, below are some websites that offer tips and suggestions to make reading time more fun and meaningful. Sharing the joys and excitement of reading is as easy as sharing a book with a child. The key is to make this routine exciting and engaging, not overwhelming and never frustrating.
Reading RocketsReading Rockets website is a wonderful resource for parents and educators. It has many articles that discuss research based practices that can easily be implemented at home and at school.
